Snugg secures UK Gov funding to help create a greener future

We've got exciting news to share! We’re thrilled to announce that Snugg has received a grant from the Green Home Finance Accelerator (GHFA), funded through the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP). This funding will go towards developing our Green Home Hub - a digital platform, separate from the Snugg website, designed to work with partners, such as banks and energy providers, with the goal of helping homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient.

Our mission at Snugg has always been to make energy-efficient homes simple and affordable for everyone. Thanks to the GHFA grant, we're taking another big step towards making this mission a reality.

What's the Green Home Finance Accelerator?

The GHFA is a UK Government initiative that supports the development of innovative green finance products. These products aim to make it easier for homeowners to improve home energy efficiency and switch to low-carbon heating solutions.

The GHFA is part of the government’s commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions, and Snugg was selected as one of 26 Discovery Phase projects from across the UK to be part of this effort. We’re proud to be playing our part in helping the UK move towards a greener future.

Introducing the Green Home Hub

The Green Home Hub (GHH) is a data-driven platform, separate from the Snugg website, that we're building for partners, including banks and energy providers, that will use data science to turn the concept of investing in home energy efficiency from a "no-hoper" to a "no-brainer".

The GHH will use advanced data analysis, pulling from a wide range of sources, to give our partners’ customers the information they need to make informed decisions about energy-efficient home upgrades. They’ll get clear guidance on which improvements are most suitable for their home, what the costs will be, how much they could save, what grants are available, and even how much their home's value could increase as a result of these improvements.

With the Green Home Hub, homeowners will be able to track their progress, monitor energy savings and see the reduction in carbon emissions resulting from their improvements - all in real time.

Unlike the Snugg website, the Green Home Hub will be licensed to our partners, enabling us to reach many more thousands of homeowners across the UK and make an even greater environmental impact.

Why does this matter?

Historically, some of our partners’ efforts to encourage homeowners to make energy-efficient upgrades haven't been as successful as hoped. Offering slightly lower interest rates or small amounts of cashback to take on ‘green’ financial products, like mortgages, hasn't persuaded many homeowners to act.

We believe the key to changing this is addressing the barriers homeowners face when considering these upgrades:

  • Which improvements are most suitable for their home.
  • What the costs will be.
  • What savings they can expect.
  • Which grants might be available.
  • Whether their home could increase in value.
  • Where to find a local installer.

With the Green Home Hub, we aim to transform the way homeowners and financial institutions view green products, making energy-efficient upgrades a clear choice rather than a complicated decision.

Lord Callanan, Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, said, "The government has put in place long-term commitments to ensure homes across the country have greater energy efficiency to reduce bills, drive down energy use and lower emissions. We are supporting these organisations to develop fresh and innovative ways of helping more people get better access to energy efficiency measures, such as loft insulation, double glazing and heat pumps."

Snugg CEO, Robin Peters, said, “We're thrilled to have secured the Green Home Finance Accelerator grant. It’s a significant leap forward in our mission to make home energy efficiency simple and accessible for all. Through the development of the Green Home Hub, we're poised to transform the narrative around home energy investment from a 'no-hoper' to an absolute 'no-brainer'. We’ve already been aligning our approach with several key players (including Trustmark, Nesta and HSBC). Now, we're eager to collaborate with more industry participants as we aim to reach thousands more homeowners and accelerate our collective journey towards Net Zero.”
